Overview
A fire extinguisher is a portable or wheeled device under pressure, that contains diffrent extinguishing agent designed to put out or control small and manageable fires by discharging an agent such as water, chemical powder, or gas.
This extinguishing agent suppresses the fire by cooling the burning material, cutting off the oxygen supply, or interrupting the chemical reaction of the fire.
Fires are grouped into classes, each class has a different type of extinguishing agent designed to fight the hazard that is presented. Each fire extinguisher has its own characteristics, capabilities, and limitations, so it is important to understand the different classes of fires to be able to fight them efficiently.
